EtherCAT Library for LabVIEW Introduction

The "EtherCAT Library for LabVIEW" gives a LabVIEW Windows application the ability to act as an EtherCAT Master. Any EtherCAT slave device can be controlled with tis library.

Feature overview

Cyclic process data exchange

CANopen over EtherCAT (CoE)

Servo Profile over EtherCAT (SoE) protocol

Access to Slave EEPROM and Registers

File Transfer over EtherCAT (FoE) mailbox protocol

Synchronization with Distributed Clocks (DC) including Master Synchronization (DCM)

EtherCAT is a real-time capable industrial bus. But it can also be used without real-time. Depending on the requirements both options are available. If real-time is required, for deterministic measurement rates or control loops, the master has to be executed in a real-time operating system next to Windows or on a stand-alone PC. Both cases are covered with the EtherCAT Library for LabVIEW. This allows a deterministic bus rate of up to 10 kHz.

If no real-time is required, because the application is simple and has Windows timed sampling, the EtherCAT Master can be run directly in Windows.
